Frequently Asked Questions about MTP

Who can attend classes at Master the Possibilities?

Any adult can register for MTP courses.

Who is a member and a non-member?

The fees are listed as “member” and “non-member.” Member fees include residents of On Top of the World, Candler, Indigo and Stone Creek communities. Residents of these communities receive free and discounted tuition because they already provide annual support to Master the Possibilities through the homeowner’s fees. Residency is verified by staff the first time you register for classes.

How do I register and pay for classes?

Go to the Getting Started page to find out more.

When do I register to assure I get the courses I would like?

Some programs are in high demand. It is best if you register as early as possible. You can always cancel up to six business days in advance. We make course cancelation decisions and room arrangements basedon enrollments, so it is important that we know how many are planning to attend as soon as possible. Faculty members are given course rosters of students enrolled. It is important that you register, even if they are free classes.

If a class is filled up, can I be put on a waiting list?

Yes, please take advantage of the waiting lists. As people drop out or decide to schedule another date for the same class, you will be notified of the course opening. Wait list students have first priority for any available openings.

Can I receive a refund if I don’t attend a class or cancel?

Beginning summer 2017, students can cancel a course or courses by clicking on “Course Cancelation Request” on the Course Catalog page. This sends an email directly to the Master the Possibilities registration team. They will respond to your request within three business days. You may also call on the 24- hour registration line, (352) 854-3699, or stop by the office, M-F, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refund rules apply.

Students can obtain a full tuition refund by notifying the office up to six businessdays prior to the first day the class begins (unless otherwise stated in the course information). Student who cancel after six business days before a class or do not attend the class forfeit the full tuition paid.

Students may request a credit to apply to future classes, a credit to their credit card, or a check for cash transactions. No refunds will be given for classes less than $5, unless the class is canceled by Master the Possibilities.

If Master the Possibilities cancels a class at any time, full tuition paid by the student will be issued to the student unless the student prefers to receive a credit for a future class. Please allow two weeks for processing checks and credit card refunds.

How can I keep up with new programs?

The best way to learn about new courses which are being added throughout the term is through Master the Possibilities weekly email alerts. These weekly alerts remind you of what is coming up the next week as well as notify you of any new classes that are not in the printed catalog. We are adding new classes all the time. You can opt out of those emails any time you want. We also post the new courses on the front of the web page.

How do I find out if courses are changed, canceled or moved?

When we cancel, change a date or time, or move a class location, you will be notified by email (if we have your address) or a telephone call. You can opt out of the class and receive a full refund if the date or time change does not work with your schedule. You can also check online for updates and on our daily electronic course listing in the Master the Possibilities lobby. Courses with their time and location are posted daily.

How do you evaluate your classes and instructors?

You can evaluate a class by using the online evaluation. This allows us to gather immediate feedback and see trends over time. Paper evaluation forms are available in every classroom and can be turned into the office or to the instructor. We also appreciate students stopping by after a program to provide immediate feedback. Your input is critically important.

Who do I contact if I have a course or faculty suggestion or want to teach myself?

Call (352) 861-9751 or stop by the office. We welcome suggestions and are always looking for new course ideas and experienced, credentialed instructors.

Do you have opportunities for volunteers?

MTP is looking for volunteers to serve as greeters and registration assistants in the lobby during peak registration and class times. We are also in need of volunteers for outreach and communication, special event support, faculty technology support, and other special projects. If you are interested, call (352) 387-7575.
